Coming Soon:Lower Left Brewing, is about to provide you with yet another reason to love LoSo

Posted by • LoSo Nightlife

It’s no secret that Lower South End is becoming a destination spot for beer in Charlotte. With flagship brewery, Olde Mecklenburg Brewing, The Broken Spoke, and The Brewers at Yancey 4001, there is already a good spectrum of tap houses to travel between on your LoSo day-drinking tour.

However, in late-May, the spectrum is getting even wider. LoSo’s newest brewery, Lower Left Brewing is coming to us soon and bringing a vast concoction of delicious and unique brews to the mix. The name Lower Left, is a nod to the location of the brewery. It quite literally refers to the positioning of Lower Southend being in near the "lower left" of Charlotte, and this location is truly a prime one. Besides being in one of the most up-and-coming areas of Charlotte, the space right next door to Lower Left is currently for sale, which means another truly amazing concept could be coming any day now! Additionally, LoSo is rich with activity-based businesses with Queen Park Social, Escape Tactic, an Indoor Cornhole Bar, and an Archery Range, all within walking distance. These were only a few of the reasons why LoSo was chosen by the owners as the place to plant their new home. Co-Owner Tim Curtis, was the original dreamer of Lower Left Brewing and sought out Alex Shoenthal as his head brewer and co-partner to join in and make this dream a reality. Shoenthal is well known in the Charlotte brewer crowd, as the former head brewer at Rivermen Brewing Company, located in Belmont. He has been homebrewing for 15 years and has been competitively brewing and winning throughout his entire career.

Lower Left will come to life in a 2100-square foot former mechanic’s garage from the 50’s, that has a unique look and vibe. There will be four roll-up garage doors, perfect for the upcoming Spring and Summer weather, with seating inside for 60, and a handful of different outside seating areas to enjoy their array of beers. As the head brewer, Shoenthal’s mission is to set Lower Left apart in LoSo. He plans on brewing a bunch of different styles, with a focus on sours, fruited sours, funky beers, and Belgian style beers. Their beers will be primarily hop-forward, and will always have several IPAS on tap with constant, rotating releases. Lower Left will have around 4-6 core beers available year-round, with both light and darker styles available in that mix. In addition, Shoenthal will be brewing some of his award-winning recipes, like his famous Coconut Crème Pie Blond Ale and Chocolate-Orange Imperial Ale.

Since it’s typical that not everyone at a brewery is a big fan of beer, they will also have cider from Good Road and Red Clay available year-round, along with wine by the glass, prosecco, and mimosas on Sunday’s!

As far as food options at the brewery, you can expect light, pre-packaged snacks for purchase, along with a dedicated food-truck area that will allow for a rotation of popular food trucks to choose from.  This outside area will also experience live music in the summer, a fire pit for those chilly nights, and other exciting features and additions to the space that will be announced at later dates. They plan on offering the space to be used for club meetings, private party rentals, and also hosting their own events, like special beer tappings, tastings, and pairing events. Shoenthal himself is a novel chef on the side, and is excited to plan out the pairing menus for everyone!

More information will be available as they draw nearer to their opening date, but get ready to bring the dogs and the whole family, and enjoy LoSo's newest member!
